Welcome to the Virginia College of Emergency Physicians 2025 Annual Conference. We are thrilled to host you at The Omni Homestead Resort, a beautiful and historic setting perfect for a weekend filled with education, networking, relaxation, and exploration.
This year’s educational sessions begin with a cardiology keynote delivered by UVA Health’s Dr. William Brady, recipient of the university’s 2024 All-University Teaching Award and a renowned professor and clinician. He kicks off a weekend filled with a diverse lineup of presentations across a range of topics in emergency medicine and related specialties.
In addition to lectures, breakout sessions and hands-on procedural workshops are designed for smaller group learning. For those who prefer a more fast-paced approach, “rapid-fire” sessions allow residents and junior faculty to present on various subjects in a condensed format. Back for a second year, poster presentations offer an excellent opportunity to explore new research and ideas from students and residents. And of course, we’ll have the always popular Resident Jeopardy, where the next generation of ER docs will show us their stuff. Will VCU defend their title from 2024? Find out Saturday night.
VACEP is dedicated not only to education but leadership in advocacy, policy, and practice improvement. Saturday will feature our annual round-table discussion regarding Virginia and federal legislative issues — specifically scope of practice, boarding, security, and reimbursement. Once again, and for what is now multiple years in a row, we are honored to have top ACEP leaders join us, including president-elect L. Anthony “Tony” Cirillo, MD, FACEP. Take advantage of receptions, breaks, and meals to meet your colleagues from throughout the state. You never know where a handshake will take you.
Unique to this year’s conference is the Emergency Department Leadership Summit. This is a separate, one-day event on Friday the 21st before our main sessions and designed for current and future medical directors. This Summit convenes multiple Virginia ED medical directors and healthcare attorneys to discuss issues and share ideas that will make you a better leader, help you plan ahead, and give you knowledge to better manage medical operations.
And we don’t travel just for the sake of it. We hope you’ll take some time to enjoy the wonderful amenities that The Omni Homestead Resort has to offer. Whether exploring nearby trails, enjoying complimentary ski lift tickets, horseback riding, visiting the shooting club, or relaxing at teatime in the Great Hall, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
